Attendees: ber, ike, bub, ron The reader may recall ron's problematic clamshell battery. Turns out he sent mail to the manufacturer (iGo) and they simply sent him a new one. Not bad. We've been given a 1/2 off coupon for the Mac OS X Server essentials exam - in case anyone needs it. Thanks Ron. We talked about products assembled in Taiwan, that D.E. Shaw is looking for ASIC engineers, building "supercomputers", Distributed Net/RC5 etc. and statistical modelling. From technology to psychology about markets being driven by emotion. Then we mixed and matched in discussion about public/private keys, threat models, securID, etc. About then a guy walked in off the street where he saw the LESMUUG banner. And yes, he was a Mac user. Apparently an Oracle teacher or somesuch database type. Anyway, he came in to see if it was really a Mac user group, saw that it was, and left. He might have said he'd be back some day. Being almost New Year's Eve rien made us oliebollen. Someone was excited about Quicksilver. And we talked about SubEthaEdit's "see"(?) program, latex, mellel(?), text vs UI editing and word processing... and nroff/troff, the C/A/T phototypesetter, ditroff, groff, *roff etymology and landed on RSTS-11. We wrapped it up with Mac OS X & the search for inexpensive laser printers.
